El Reno
Sanitarium
The El Reno Sanitarium was built by Dr. John A. Hatchett and
Henry C. Shuttee in 1902. At the time of its opening there was no hospital
in Western Oklahoma to meet the growing needs of such an institution. The
liberal patronage it received by the people and medical profession proved the wisdom
of its establishment. It maintained a Training school for Nurses and was the
first hospital in the state to adopt a regular course of training and graduate a
class of trained nurses. In the first twelve years the sanitarium received
and treated 3,179, patients.
In 1908, an addition was built and in the next few years the
institution acquired seven adjoining buildings. These were used for a maternity
building, one for isolated cases, three for nurses homes, and two for maintenance
and laundry.
Dr. Thomas M. Aderhold became owner and Chief of Staff in 1912.
The hospital served the community until 1954 when Parkview Hospital was opened.
Catto Hospital
Dr. William Bruce Catto established a small hospital over a down town
store in 1918. It consisted of seven rooms. In 1922, he bought a large
two story house at 421 S. Williams. In 1923, he opened the Catto Hospital
in this house. Dr. Catto operated this hospital until Park View Hospital opened
in 1954 when he moved his patients to the new facility.

Parkview
Hospital
Parkview Hospital, located within Adam's Park, was a short term general
hospital which was owned and operated by the City of El Reno until October 1968,
at which time a Trust Authority of the City took over the operation of the hospital.
It had a total bed capacity of 44 beds and 10 bassinettes.
Parkview Hospital was well staffed with eight local physicians and
two physicians from the City of Yukon plus several specialty consulting physicians
from Oklahoma City. There were approximately 90 full time employees.
In October 1969, Parkview Hospital began providing ambulance service
for El Reno and the surrounding area.
In August 1971, Parkview Hospital built an addition to house new ancillary
services while striving to provide the equipment, personnel and the ultimate in
comfort for the patient.
