Memories Tied Into Parkview Foundation Gifts From the El Reno Tribune - August 17, 2005
It's no coincidence that the first two donors to contribute to the Parkview Foundation Wall of Life were Bill Marshall, former administrator of Parkview Hospital, and Lex Smith, present administrator. Both men take pride in their work at Parkview and, as members of the Commemorative Foundation Board of Trustees, were instrumental in the creation of the Foundation Wall of Live. Leading by example, both Marshall and Smith know their donations not only honor their loved ones but may also encourage others to make a tax-deductible contribution that benefits the hospital as well as honoring families and friends. Marshall made the first donation to the Foundation in memory of his wife, Jackie. She had been ill for a number of years and was admitted to Parkview several times before she died. "Jackie was always treated with dignity and respect at Parkview Hospital," Marshall said. "She held the hospital and its staff in the highest esteem, so giving to the foundation was the perfect way to honor her memory and contribute to the hospital we both loved and that I still believe in." Smith's donation was in memory of his late father, Dr. Roy J. Smith, Jr., who died last year. Smith thought the lasting contribution was a wonderful way to memorialize his father's family legacy. Smith also donated to the foundation in honor of his first grandchild, 19-month-old Alexa Michelle Smith. "Parkview Hospital is a proud steward of the trusted contributions of loving family members," said Smith. "The funds are handled in the utmost ethical fashion and serve as a permanent appreciation for the special people in our lives." Because donations to the foundation are managed with respect to the families and loved ones, both Marshall and Smith encourage people to remember that the foundation an excellent tool for gift-giving as well as money management. Contributions can be made in lieu of flowers at a funeral, given as gifts during the holidays and included in estate planning. "There's such a pride in donating, especially in honor or memory of a family member or close friend," Smith said. "Not only were the donations for my father and granddaughter and Bill's wife emotional acts of giving on our part, but seeing their names in places of distinction on the Wall of Life brings us both great joy every time we see them." Knowing that their contributions will never be spent, and only the fund's dividends will be utilized to ensure the hospital's future growth and success can also comfort donors. Because of the perpetual nature of the fund, donations can be a lasting memorial to any individual or family. "When you give in honor of an individual, you are not only memorializing their legacy, but you are also helping the hospital grow and succeed," Marshall said. "It's a lasting tribute that continues to make a daily impact in people's lives." All contributions will be recognized on special plaques and placed on the Wall of Life. Donations can be made in many forms including gifts of cast, commemorative and memorial gifts, annuities, life insurance and bequests. Donations can be mailed to Parkview Hospital Commemorative Foundation, 2115 Parkview Drive, El Reno, Oklahoma 73036.
